Do you offer support for Foscam product purchased on other stores?

We support only cameras as purchased from our store - we do not offer support for purchased made on other stores

What operating systems are supported?

Most of the camera's functions / features are completely web based and work with any recent OS and browser (Unix, MacOS, Windows etc.) and Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari, IE. Also major smart phone operating systems (Android, iOS, Windows 7 phone) are supported. However, some features (two way audio, recording, multiview only work with IE).

Do these cameras support recording?

Yes, using Windows and IE you can record audio and video.

Is there a Warranty available on the product?

All items come with a 24 month warranty (terms & conditions apply).

Daylight mode / White picture - I can only see a white picture?

In order to work properly outside, please select the "Outdoor" mode (in the live view menu - by default set to 50/60 Hz).

Where do I find User Guides / Manuals / Firmware?

Having issues with IE and active-x plugin?

For 64 bit Windows (Win 7 etc.), please use the 32 bit IE version. Also accept active-x plugins and add the camera's IP address to the trusted sites list.

How do I set up the camera (Network setup)?

By default, the camera is using DHCP to acquire an IP address from your router. The software on the CD just scans the local network for the IP address of the camera, which can also be achieved by looking at the DHCP client log on the router or just testing the next IP address (for example, your router is 10.1.1.1, your laptop is 10.1.1.2 and you can try 10.1.1.3 etc. for the camera).

How does Wifi setup work?

We had a few users asking about the Wifi setup process

1. Make sure the camera is working properly via fixed LAN connection (live view, pan / tilt if available)
2. The camera only supports B and G modes, if your router is only using N, the older models won't work
3. The best security standard to choose is WPA2-AES (personal). if the router only supports the enterprise version, wireless won't work
4. Do not hide the SSID in the wifi router config - and do not use a MAC address filter (at least initially - since the camera has 2 different MACs)
5. Make sure the wifi antenna is securely attached to the camera. Don't place the camera too close to the router (min 1.5m distance)
6. Select the wireless menu via the cameras web interface. Click on scan 2-3 times - this should find your SSID
7. Select your SSID and choose the appropriate WPA2-PSK + AES standard (or whatever your router is set to, don't use the cameras default configuration) - and put in your password
8. Click on save and when the countdown to reboot starts, carefully remove the cameras network cable before the camera boots up - be sure not to accidentally pull out the power cord
9. Wait a few minutes, since the camera will now have a different IP address than before with the LAN cable, either use the scan software provided on the CD or check your routers DHCP log for the new IP address  
10. If there are problems with DHCP, try to use a static IP setup

Colour reproduction problems?

This used to be an issue with the non - IR cut cameras - and still is with some of Foscam's internal IP camera range.

Due to the fact that these IR cameras have to be able to capture infrared light at night, they don't have IR filters as part of the lens assembly (as normal cameras like webcams, compact cameras and SLRs do). This does create un-natural colours, as IR light is displayed as white light. Some trees have a pink or purple tinge and fabrics may not have the same colour to your eye as viewed via the camera. This behaviour is normal for day / night IR cameras, which makes them less suited for day only installations where correct colour reproduction is required.

Configuring port forwarding / dynamic DNS for viewing over the internet

Many users would like to access their camera over the internet - either from work, on holidays or smart phones. Here are the instructions for setting this up (and yes, it's a bit complicated, but it's definitely worth doing).

1. Requirements

Make sure your camera is working properly in your local network (LAN).  If you are using a static IP address, please make sure that the network mask and default gateway are set properly. Check your upload bandwidth and quota with your ISP. Make sure you have at least 256 kbps and a few GB upload. Some ISPs "feature" a firewall - which is blocking incoming ports via ADSL or cable. You can request to disable this (entirely or for certain ports).

2. Port forwarding

Internet modems / routers usually use network address translation (NAT) to allow multiple devices access to the internet.
You can have muliple internal IP addresses (non-routable, something like 10.0.0.3 or 192.168.1.4) but only have one external (routable) IP address. To get around this issue, your router remembers connections in a state table and automatically translates IP addresses and port numbers to make this work. In order to be able to receive new incoming connections, you have to tell your router to forward a specific TCP port to a specific internal device. You need to configure your internet router to forward an external port (8080 for example) to the internal IP address of your camera (80 by default).

External port: 8080 (tcp) (sometimes you have from / to ports, in which case you use 8080-8080 to only forward one port)
External IP: you usually only have one - and your router knows about it, so you don't have to supply this
Internal port:   80 (tcp)
Internal IP of the camera: 192.168.2.80 (as an example).

There are plenty of guides about port forwarding on the internet - mainly for file sharing and gaming, but the setup is the same, just the ports will be different. Just google the name / brand of your router and port forwarding instructions and you will find something useful.

3. Dynamic DNS

To make matters more complicated, most ISPs dynamically assign the external IP address to you - you will get a new one every time the internet connection drops. In this case you can't configure the external IP in your app or browser. You can however setup a free Dynamic DNS account (http://dnslookup.me/dynamic-dns/) and configure this in your router (not the camera). So whenever the router gets a new IP address, it will automatically tell the Dynamic DNS server the new address and you can access your camera via myipcamera.dyndns.org for example.

4. Applications

You can use native apps, smart phone web browsers and recording sites and apps.

- iPhone / iPad / iOS:
  - Search for Foscam on the App Store - uFoscam, Foscam Surveillance Pro, Live Cams etc. are working
  - The standard web browser is working with the Foscam web interface as well

- Android:
  - Try the free Foscam IP cam viewer, IP Cam Viewer Lite or TinyCam - or search for Foscam on the Android Market
  - The standard browser does not do mjpeg, but the free Firefox browser and Chrome will

- Browsers: all standard browsers are working

- Recording:

5. Trouble shooting

- Try canyouseeme.org to verify if the port has been forwarded and is open. Please keep in mind that your modem / router as well as your ISP can have port         filters enabled which don't allow certain or all incoming ports.
- initially don't use dynamic dns for testing - use your IP (but make sure it's still current). Try whatismyip.com to see your IP address.
- If your external IP address is not pingable, try this site: www.just-ping.com. If ping does not work, it's either not your IP anymore or there are filters                     somewhere.
- Some ISPs (and 3G providers) block incoming and outgoing ports. Try different external ports - 80, 81, 443, 6000, 8000, 8080 - some will hopefully work for you
- Some web browsers (especially the iPhone) will not allow you to connect to certain ports
